We are seeing more applications of robotaxi and self-driving vehicles worldwide. Many large companies such as Waymo, Tesla and Baidu are accelerating their speed of robotaxi deployment in multiple cities. Some human drivers especially cab drivers worry that they will lose their jobs due to AI. They argue that the lower operating cost and AI can work technically 24 hours a day without any rest like human will have more competing advantage than humans. What do you think?

I took rides of Baidu's Robotaxi (brand name: èåå¿«è·) several times in Wuhan and I do feel that some of the drivers' job opportunities will be taken by these driverless robotaxi, which have several advantages: 1. Comfort of Constant Driving Speed :The robotaxi drives at a relative constant speed, without a lot of sudden acceleration or cutting in lines of waited queues. So the feeling of taking the ride of robotaxi is good. The only thing to complain is that it's just a little bit too slow. But I think maybe it's for safety reasons that the cars are set to move slowly. 2. Price is cheaper. For example, my aparment is around 20 to 30 mins' drive to my company. And the price of taking the robotaxi is only 15 yuan RMB , which is around half the price of the ride-hailing services (around 30 yuan RMB),e,g. Didi. But maybe the low-price of the robotaxi ride is just temporary? I know right now some cab drivers in Wuhan cities are complaining about the robotaxis taking the customer's orders and there are growing backlash from these drivers. But I do think the robotaxis are the future. And there will be new job opportunities growing also.

I am just mad and curious about why these large companies are so enthusiastic about driverless cars, delivery robots and seize ordinary people's jobs. They may increase profits and lower the cost. But normal people will not benefit from the robotaxi's deployment. Even though new jobs may be created, but the drivers or delivery guys are usually not easily adapting to new job skills. And I really feel sorry for them.
